BIOGRAPHY

Sophia Rückriegel is a social and environmental activist, author, entrepreneur and high school student residing in Brooklyn, New York. She has spearheaded and supported multiple social action initiatives in collaboration with local and national organizations serving communities of color in the United States and is a diversity, equity and inclusion advocate.

Sophia has participated in global service programs to support marine life conservation in Central America and health care service provision in Peru. A national of the United States and Germany with a strong interest in learning languages and bridging cross-cultural understanding, she has studied abroad in Schondorf Am Ammersee, Germany during 10th grade, and speaks French, Spanish and German.

Sophia has received recognition for her advocacy work and been invited to speak to youth and adults in the United States and abroad about social activism. In May 2023,  she delivered a presentation during the Explorers Club Annual Dinner (ECAD) Next Generation panel on “Social Action as a Pathway to Exploration.”

Sophia is a member of The Explorer’s Club, President of the National German Honor Society (California Eta Zeta chapter), Co-President of the Marymount School of New York’s Robotics Club, member of the NAACP Brooklyn Youth Council and was recognized on the Points of Light Inspiration Honor Roll for her volunteer service.

Her first book, written for young people, How to Be a Social Activist: How to Plan, Launch and Support Social Change in your Community and our World, co-authored with Kilian Rückriegel, was released in 2022.
